JR Writer, known in the streets as one of the Diplomats, is no stranger to the mic. Born and raised in Harlem, he began rapping at age 11. Influenced by Snoop Dogg, Tupac, Wu Tang Clan and Cam’ron, Writer stayed with it, and eventually honed his skills and created the versatile style that makes his tracks stand out.

He first met Cam’ron in 2002 through a mutual friend while hanging on on 145th Street and Broadway. Meeting one of his influences eye to eye did not deter Writer; instead, he began rapping for Cam. Three weeks later, Cam’ron brought JR Writer in the studio with Juelz Santana, and the rest is history.

Writer recorded his first song that fateful day, a track called “Squalie” which appeared on Juelz’ album From Me To You.

He’s appeared on many of the popular Diplomats Mixtapes (after Volume 3), has appeared on Cam’ron’s recent Purple Haze record (the track “Shake”), and has appeared with all of the Diplomats on Diplomatic Immunity 2.

The Diplomats, JR Writer, Cam’ron, Jim Jones, Juelz Santana, Freekey Zekey, DukeDaGod, Hell Rell, Jha Jha, and 40Cal, are one of the most popular hip hop groups today. Hit after hit, the Diplomats rule the East Coast airwaves, and their videos are always in current rotation at BET.

The 19 year-old Dominican says, “I would consider myself as the hungry part of the Diplomats. Even though I’m a signed artist, I work and rap like I’m still an unsigned artist?sitting on a crate in front of the corner store somewhere.”

Writer has his own mixtape out now called Writer’s Block Part 1, which sold an incredible 30,000 copies in three weeks. He is currently working on his next mixtape, Writer’s Block Part 2: The Union.

JR Writer is currently working on his debut album, which will be released on Diplomat Records/KOCH Records this summer. JR says, “I’m basically going to bring out an album that you can sit down and listen to instead of slapping through songs that you don’t like.” Given the numerous tracks he’s recorded, we can’t wait to hear it.
